There are very few rivers left in France where salmon can still be seen swimming upstream. Luckily for visitors to Vichy, the River Allier is one of those few. Situated next to the Pont de l’Europe on the right bank of the river is a fish ladder, a relatively rare sight in modern Europe. Here you can sit and watch a whole host of river life go by including salmon, eels, sea trout and many other localised species.
