The Gate of Peyra dates in its present form from 1310. It is thought that there had been an entrance to the old city in this position before that time, but when this gate was built, it was so well loved that a fountain was also built to commemorate the opening. Today both fountain and gate stand as a lasting testimony to the brilliance of the architecture of this period and are listed as graded historical monuments in this small community.
