The Municipal Gallery is the largest and most significant of the art galleries that exist in the community. It brings together a large collection of art that has been collected by the local authority over a period of many years. There is a definite bias towards works that are made in the local area or were at least influenced by the town. However, there are paintings that represent some of the best works from across the major schools of European art.
