This section of the massive gardens of the palace is situated further away from the main building than the traditional French gardens that are most prominent. These gardens have been modelled in more of an English style, which is more sheltered and pastoral than the extremely formal style of many of the sections of the great park. Louis XIV was extremely committed to having an English theme somewhere in his great project, and this is the main area of manifestation of that wish.
