The Place du Peyra was originally the forum of the town when it was under Roman control nearly two thousand years ago. It would also have been used as a market place. In the middle ages the square was used for public executions, and just the mention of the square was enough to send a shiver down the spines of residents. In 2005 the square was completely refurbished and made back into a place of meeting, filled with cafes and bars where you can admire the architecture from.
