Pablo Picasso was born in Andalusia in Spain in 1881, and is recognised as being one of the greatest fine artists of the modern age. He developed the ‘cubist’ movement, his paintings selling for more than almost any other artist on earth. Picasso lived much of his life in France, despite his Spanish roots continuing to influence his work. Many of his paintings were gifted to the French government to pay for death duties, these becoming the foundations of the collection that can be viewed in this marvelous museum.
