The French and the English have not really seen eye to eye in the best part of a thousand years of history. That said, they have always both had a great deal of respect for one another’s cultures and natural assets. This garden, built in 1812 in the traditional English mould, is an example of this respect. It is quite odd to walk from a formal French house and gardens in to what can only be described as a little piece of England, far from home.
