Lyon has a rich and interesting architectural history and most of the best examples come from the wealthy merchants’ houses that were built in the early to mid 16th Century. Nicknamed ‘Henry IV’s House’ because of the bust of the king on the front of the property, in fact this was only ever a private mansion of some note. Unfortunately significant damage happened to the house in the 19th Century, but much of the spirit and character of the oldest architecture has survived.
